Brentwood 35 Harlow 12
London Three North East
Harlow had a good first half playing uphill and into strong low angle sunlight which made them vulnerable to high ball. The turned around trailing by 8 points to 5 and could have reasonable expected that with the conditions in their favour in the second half the game was there for the taking. The outcome however was very different they allowed a competitive home side to bundle them out of the game so that by the start of the final quarter it was beyond reach. In the final quarter Harlow rallied a little and for the sector honours were even at 7 points each including one excellent try from Wayne Morgan.
For the first 15 minutes it was an even contest with both sides having some attacking chances but not being able to capitalise. The Brentwood went ahead with a well struck penalty. Within minute Harlow had a penalty chance of their own but opted to kick for the corner. A clean lineout catch from Snow and a well set maul game them the edge. After being held briefly they drove over and tight head Paul Prindiville got the touch down for a 3 – 5 lead. Harlow continued to look strong and had several good attacking chances one by Grimley getting well into the 22. The with just three minutes to go a defensive lapse let Brentwood in and their centre broke clear for a try in the corner allowing them to turn around with an 8 – 5 lead.
Brentwood started the second half with a great counter attack from the kick off and from the second phase of play put their winger in for a try converted by their fly half for a 15 – 5 lead. Minutes later an injury to James McFerran saw Wayne Morgan come on at outside centre. The home side then extended their lead with a penalty and then in the 50th minute added another unconverted try for a 28 – 5 lead. An injury to Hans Barnard brought Darren Hawkins on at flanker. In the closing stages Harlow rallied a little and produced their best move of the game. Harron took the ball on the burst and attacked across towards the corner. Morgan coming in at pace called for the kick and the Harlow scrum half glided a beautifully placed grubber kick behind the defending winger. Morgan came through to gather and swerved in towards the posts to touch down. Ford was on target making ot 28 – 12 to Brentwood. With just three minutes to go Brentwood sealed their victory with a try and conversion from their fly half.
