Enfield Ignations 24 Harlow 15
(Half time 14 - 8)
London Three North East League
A below strength
Harlow team conceded important points to
Enfield
last Saturday.
It was a game which given a little more good
fortune they could have won.
They off had a number of good scoring
opportunities where the move broke down only at the final phase.
Of the tries scored against them two were the
result of confused situations rather than dominant play by the home side.
This leaves
Harlow in 11th
place in the 12 club league with three games to play before the completion
of the first half of the league season,
all of them against clubs in a similar position,
that is to say he dangerously close to the relegation zone.
It is absolutely essential that
Harlow take
some points from these remaining games in order to maintain contact with the
clubs above them.
Harlow were
caught off balance in the second minute of the game when a ball went loose
and an Enfield
player
took
opportunist kick ahead.
The ball went over the try line and in the
scramble for the touchdown the home side got the benefit of the doubt.
A safe conversion gave them a seven point
lead.
From the restart
Harlow
countered well and had two good attacking moves through their backs which
almost broke clear but in a difficult crosswind the final past just did not
carry.
A quarter of an hour
into the game Paul Humphries, space making a
welcome return, slotted a long Penalty to reduce the margin to seven points
to three.
Harlow had another good attacking chance before a
driving breakout by
Enfield
created an opportunity for their number seven to cross the line for a try
under the posts end an easy conversion.
Harlow
hit back a few minutes before the turnaround when a good chip kick towards
the corner bounced favourably for Paul Humphries following up and he took
the ball cleanly and squirmed round the final defender to touch down for the
try.
The conversion was just wide and the game turned round
at 14 points to 8 in favour of
Enfield.
Three minutes
into the second half Enfield
extended their lead with a very well taken penalty in difficult conditions.
Despite playing uphill however Harlow
had a rather more successful 20 minutes, in particular making very good use
of their pack.
Ricky Mckinlay playing at flanker rather than
his normal position at prop showed good strength in the loose and as always
Paul Eynon and Darren Hawkins were strong on the break.
From a line out deep in the Harlow half Enfield
used a very short throw to the front man in their line out who made a half
if break before flicking the ball to the wing who immediately passed inside
to allow their lock forward to go over for the try, a safe conversion gave
them a margin of 24 points to 8.
The
Harlow pack
continued to work very hard and got their reward when a driving maul went
towards the line and Ricky McKinley burrowed through to touch down for the
try.
Humphries was bang on target with the difficult
conversion from near the touchline reducing the margin to 24 points to 15.
Despite some good work by the
Harlow pack in
the closing minutes to score remained unchanged.
Next Saturday
Harlow
are at home to Saffron Walden who are one place above them.
It is probably their most critical game of the
season and at the same time their best opportunity to maintain contact with
tour three clubs immediately above them.
