Harlow 0 Enfield Ignations 30 London Three North East League Despite a considerable
effort by some members of the team Harlow were outplayed by local rivals
Enfield on Saturday. The Rams had some good scoring opportunities but were
held out by a determined defence by the visitors who took advantage of the
attacking moves they created and made their scoreline look even better by
punishing some elementary Harlow mistakes.
For most of the first fifteen minutes Harlow had slightly more of the
play and it looked as if it would be a close contest. Then however a long
lick to the Harlow 22 saw Enfield follow up much quicker than Harlow and
attack with numerical advantage. Harlow tacking was indecisive and lock
forward Warren crashed in for a try. Five minutes later a second attack from
Enfield brought a try from scrum half Piper, this time converted by full
back Moore for a 12 – 0 lead. For the next fifteen minutes Harlow fought
Hard to get back into the game. A long kick set a lineout on the Enfield 5
metre line and Harlow took the ball and attacked with a rolling maul. They
were held off but four about 7 minutes launched a series of close quarter
attacks using both forwards and backs. Eynon and Hawkins from the forwards
and halfbacks Harron and McFerran were all brought down within a couple of
paces of the line before a relieved Enfield cleared. Another very good
attack saw the Harlow backs run the ball form midfield with Woodington just
inches short of the line. On the point of halftime Harlow added to their own
problems when a long pass was throw wide to a player with no support and
three Enfield defenders closing on him. They easily stole the ball and their
No. 7 ran in for the easiest of tries converted by Moore for a 19 – 0 lead
at half time. For most of the second half with the slope in their favour Harlow had much more of the territory and looked as though they might cut the deficit. McFerran kicked well to both corners and Harlow’s effective lineout put on a lot of pressure. Penalties conceded in the 47th and 60th minute however made the Harlow task even harder and a breakaway try on the 70th minute took the final score to 30 – 0.
Next week Harlow are
again at home to Romford & Gidea Park in what will be an equally tough game.
Kick off will be 2.15 and some support would be very welcome.
