Harlow start build up for the new season

Harlow first and second team squad who have been training since June put the outcomes to the test on Saturday when they played a “Reds v Greens” trial game. They played four quarters to allow Lee Harron and his coaching team plenty of opportunities to discuss strategy with the players and to rotate them and to make substitutions.

Director of Rugby Lee Harron said, “I think it will be a challenging season for us. The return of Kain Claridge and Scott Romaine will make us more competitive in the forwards.  We also have more depth in the Front Row. I also look forward to the return of James McFerran and Francis Brown from injury which will be a great help to us in the backs although they are both sometime off returning. I was pleased with certain aspects of Saturdays Trial Game, the performances of James Ephgrave, Rob Mackie and Luke Bowering in particular were very pleasing. It gave us the opportunity in game situation to see the areas we need to develop on over the next few weeks in training and further warm up matches before first League Game on 12th Sept at home to Romford.”

This Saturday Harlow 1st XV are at home to the Blackheath Academy XV who have visited Harlow a number of times in recent years for pre-season warm up games. They always send a side that play fast open rugby so it will be a game well worth watching. Harlow seconds are at home to Bancroft 1st and it is the intention to stagger kick off times so that spectators will be able to enjoy both games starting at around 2pm. Spectators are very welcome and there is no admission charge for friendly fixtures.
