Harlow 0 Rochford Hundred 62 London League Division Two North East 11th December 2010
Top of the table Rochford showed their class on Saturday with an emphatic victory at Ram Gorse. It was not a bad effort by the Rams despite the score, as they competed well in the forwards and had a massive tackle count from the three quarters.
Indeed it was Harlow who crossed the line first, their attempted try scored by centre Rhys Powell adjudged to have come from a forward pass, one of three the referee disallowed. The home side kept on the attack throughout the first half but as soon as the lost possession or made a mistake the Rochford backs made ground rapidly and scored tries.
In the first half they ran in seven tries and kicked three conversions. Half time score Rochford 41 Harlow 0. The visitors' number 4 was sin binned just after half time for foul play. This gave Harlow some more heart and they battled hard for the next thirty minutes, during which Rochford did not score any points. Wing Chris Webb was injured and replaced by Will Grimley at halftime and flanker Mark Bowering replaced by Martin Mallia. The home side spurned at least three kickable penalties in that thirty minute spell instead going for the corner and the rolling maul but the tries did not come. Half way through the half Paul Prindiville was replaced by James Lewis in the front row.
As the Harlow boys tired in the last ten minutes Rochford scored three more converted tries to give a flattering score line to a match in which they had to work hard for their points.
