Harlow 22 Saffron Walden 52
London League Division Two North East
18th September 2010

The Rams found the visitors' speedy and powerful backs too strong as SaffronWalden ran in nine tries, eight of them coming from their three quarters.

Harlow started well with a try from Lee Harron, Director of Rugby. From a scrum just outside the Hatrlow twenty two, Harron broke away and took the pass from number 8 Paul Eynon. He quickly passed to wing Will Grimley who outpaced the covering defenders , drew the fullback and gve it back to Harron to score.

Ten minutes later and the visitors broke through, their winger Dave Patch too fast for the Harlow defence. Within ten minutes they went to 12-5 when second row Richard Montgomery scored ,his try converted by Fly half , Tom Hughes. The visitors scored twice more before the interval, the tries both coming from the backs. It was fullback Dave Philps and centre Adam Miles who scored, both being converted by Hughes. The half time score 26-5 to Saffron Walden.

The Harlow forwards played well competing in the scrummage and winning most of the line outs as well as mauling with purpose. Second row Darren Hawkins made a welcome return after a long lay off through injury and was prominent in the line outs. It was Darren who scored Harlow's second try when he raced through the line from a throw just outside Walden's twenty two.

The visitors responded with another try from Walden's Skipper Philps, with the conversion from Hughes.

Harlow tried several times to maul their way over the line and following a penalty which was put in the corner they won the ball and hooker Martin Mallia crashed over with ten minutes to go. Two minutes later Walden redressed the balance when Miles scored his second try.

With the game well and truly lost the Rams went for the fourth try and as a result gained a bonus point. It was Paul Eynon who scored, his ten metre break unstoppable and fly half Michael Dobson pulled off an excellent conversion from out wide. Scrum half Will Brown and Sub. Tom Price ,centre, both scored for the visitors in the last two minutes which rather flattered them but it was a well deserved win for Saffron Walden who now top the table after two high scoring victories. Despite their two losses the Rams are fourth from bottom thanks to two bonus points. They play fellow stragglers Ignatians next week at Enfield.
