Harlow looked forward to the new season with a bumper weekend of rugby. All 3 senior teams played at home on Sat with more than 75 players turning out, and the U17 hosted Ruislip on Sunday.
Although it is difficult to make firm predictions in warm up games it has become apparent that the Ram Gorse based team's pre-season fitness sessions have gone well with late comebacks by the first team in two games ; and it is to be hoped that this is an encouraging sign for the league campaign ahead. New skipper Shaun Roberts had a stunning home debut scoring 2 tries against a plucky Bancrofts side who never gave up but it was the canny veteran Paul Eynon who proved Harlow' s talisman in their 28-20 win. Eynon left the field after the first try was scored on 20 minutes to have a dislocated finger attended to. During his absence Bancroft built a seemingly winning lead of 14 points but Eynon proved the catalyst Harlow needed on his return for a wonderful last 15 minutes of rugby which saw the home side score 2 further tries and amass 27 points in total.
Harlow 2's; now known as The Rams; went down by 1 try to a strong Bishop Stortford side and the 4's; now known as The Saints; beat a spirited black Horse side by 4 tries. Harlow begin their league campaign against East London at Rams Gorse on Saturday 10th. September. and all spectators are welcome, entrance free for this first game of the new season.
