Pre-Season Friendly
Harlow
continued their pre-season preparation last Saturday with warm up games for
both the first and second teams. Director of Rugby Lee Harron can view the
weekend with some satisfaction. A large turnout of players meant that it was
possible to rotate players and positions in each of the four quarters and
this provided valuable information for team planning in the remaining couple
of weeks before league and merit table games start. Both teams included a
number of colts and players in their first or second season of senior rugby
and they performed well at this level.
After
the game Lee Harron said, “A
good step in the right direction. I was very pleased with our defence
against a young adventurous Blackheath side. I was also pleased with aspects
of our defensive Lineout and Scrum. We showed courage trying some new
things that Pete Claridge and Francis Brown have been working on with
Players in Training. I was pleased we managed to create a number of scoring
opportunities but need to continue working hard over the next few weeks
turning these chances into points. We had a number of Colts involved during
Saturdays game the young half back partnership of Sam Gregory and Danny
Smith have a bright future along with James Lewis who held his own in the
pack. It is disappointing that we will be losing Tino Charamba to University
in the next few weeks. We travel to Woodford on Saturday who will be a much
harder and more physical task to tackle.”
The second team
performed well against a heavier Bancroft side and did well to run in four
tries to the visitors three. With a number of changes in the squad they will
need a week or two to settle but the prospects for the season are good.
This weekend the thirds and fourths start their preseason warm up and again
prospects are good. The club has a strong facture list and will be running
four sides every week plus an occasional veterans side.
