Harlow 29 Rochford 12

Merit Table

Harlow’s second XV went to the top of their league with their fourth win out of four when they beat Rochford with four tries and three penalties against two tries, one converted.

Kerry Palmer’s men took the lead early on having defended well for the first ten minutes. Probing runs from both wingers pushed Rochford into their twenty two and from a line out which the visitors failed to secure flanker Martin Edwards pounced to score.

The Harlow boys went further ahead when fly half Gary Stanley kicked a penalty in front of the posts  before Rochford pulled a try back just before half time, their winger scoring in the corner. At the beginning of the second half a Harlow mistake at the tail of the scrum five yards out allowed the Rochfrod number eight to touch down, a try which was converted.

The Rams showed their spirit and bouncebackability in coming back soon afterwards when they forced another penalty which Stanley converted. They forged ahead when they won the ball from Rochford at a scrummage and Laken kicked across field for Steven Ward, the winger scoring out wide. Within five minutes Harlow went further ahead. A kick out of defence with the Rochford scrum half under pressure went to full back Alasdair Phillips who went down the left touchline passing inside to centre Ian Rundall. Inside centre Lee Hodges was in support to take the inside pass and score.

Harlow continued to dominate and another Stanley penalty was followed by their best try. Rundall collected a high kick on the left flank and cut through the Rochford defence before passing to Phillips who took the ball to within five metres and passed to Ward who crashed over.

This was a well deserved victory with the Rams showing spirit and determination in coming from behind to win handsomely.

Outside Sarah Stimpson broke through to bring theb scores equal with a well taken try and then Solheim went over again.
