Harlow thirds and fourths were both at home on Saturday and both produced convincing wins in important matches.

The thirds won their Essex BL Merit Table game against Millwall by 57 points to 5 with team captain Adam Paine at No.8 scoring 6 tries. Jack Elston form the colts came on as a replacement flanker and added another try to the tally. It was the teams 4^th win in 4 weeks.  A highlight of the game was the very good linking between forwards and backs in attack and very positive tacking in defence.

Harlow 36 Letchworth 17

Green King Plate

The fourths were drawn against  Letchworth in the third round of the Green King Deuxieme Merit table plate competition. They came away with a convincing 36 – 17 win with good attacking rugby from both the forwards and backs. For much of the game the power of the Harlow pack allowed them to dominate. In the ruck and maul mark Stock was a major factor. He powered his way over for three very good tries the frirst of which came when on his own he drove three defenders back form the five metre line.  Letchworth had some very fast gifted backs but it was only in the final quarter that they were able to reap the benefit adding 12 points form two tries, one converted in a space of five minutes. Briefly it looked as if they may get back into the game but then a late try from Grey extended the Harlow margin and clinched the result.

The last two season has seen a massive turnaround in the strength of the lower Harlow sides. This season the club has fielded four mens’ sides nearly every week and can genuinely boast that they can offer rugby at an appropriate level to all who want to play. Even more important the thirds and fourths are now winning matches and really enjoying their Saturday afternoons.
