Cheshunt 0 Harlow 22

Merit Table

We went into this game on the back of a big win against Datchworth, as per usual we were all raring to go, plenty of numbers(less plenty shirts)

The first half saw us playing “downhill”, a term that accurately describes the Cheshunt pitch.  All three teams were playing which meant that there were a lot of people on their team that were unfamiliar to those of us that have played Cheshunt before, most of whom looked young and fit.  We spent most of the first half in our opponents 22, but it took us a while to start playing the way we know we should.  Swampy decided enough was enough, he got the ball a couple of yards from the try line and nothing was going to stop him scoring, over he went disappearing in a cloud of froth, which frightened the opposition if nothing else.  Justin has waited patiently to score himself recently, having helped plenty of others over the line.  He also went over from close range, about now, we realised that a 10 point lead might not be enough with the “uphill” half to come.  We had not made the most of the ball which we had won and converted this into points(passing off the left hand for the whole 1st half is no good).  At half time we made some changes, Sunbed came on, as did Pikey and Aunty.  Cheshunt later bringing on some “mystery” subs from the next door pitch.  Sunbed was playing to get back into the team after a week out, he is not the luckiest of chaps, 3 tackles and a nasty cracking sound later. we called for an ambulance.  His ankle was not very well to say the least, big thanks go out to Stimmo for her help, several pins and a plate later he should be at home resting up.  The opposition wanted to call the game off, even though they were downhill with the wind behind them, not having any of it the 4th team started to come to the boil.  There was unfortunately a series of high tackles, which left one of the team no real option but to try and deal with it himself, The ref thought he looked tired and gave him a quick 10 minute break.   Down to 14 men the team raised itself, Gaggy picking the ball from the back of a maul, refusing, very, very, very, selfishly to pass it out to the fly half( who was screaming for the ball), scored himself.  We were fired up now, Doreen came on to replace Danny F, who I think I can safely say was not enjoying the “ hill”(short of breath, green/grey colour skin).  From the kick off we pinned Cheshunt in their 22, after a few words with some of their supporters on the touchline who were not happy, and could beat us all up we opted to kick to touch.  Winning our line out(Swampy and Barney  dominating  this area all game), we set up a maul, span it out, all the way to our winger who scored in the corner, well done Pikey.  Paul was not happy with some of his kicks only landing 1 from 4, will try to get them closer to the posts next week.

MOTM-Rob Matthews for enduring some great neck tackles, Stimmo for the first aid assistance, Swampy and Gaggy for scoring (about time the forwards did). Tony getting a mention for his big hit to the maul, and then going off next play.

COTM-Rob for getting engaged approximately 3 weeks ago and not telling anyone, Doreen for not playing last week with no excuse.
