Harlow 4th XV 34 Braintree 4th XV 0
Merit Table Saturday 23rd October 2010 A new look 4th team took to the pitch
this Saturday with many normal players unavailable.
The variety of reasons for not playing were in
some cases acceptable and in other cases just a little bit effeminate (you
know who you are)
Danny Fitz took over the captaincy
and with his team talk ringing in our ears we kicked off.
The first score arrived when Barney popped a
clean ball to Chris Powell , unstoppable from 10 yards out he crashed over.
With Peggy stepping up to convert we were 7-0
up.
The dominance in the scrum was complete, Neal at hooker
took ball at will, providing our Lee Smith with a constant supply of clean
ball.
Next try was scored by Neal Mcm whose straight running
and strong defensive tackling was constant throughout the game.
Lee Smith scored twice more in the
first half, the forwards were now dominating the whole game, Barney was
ruthless in the lineout, not losing any of our own throw ins and taking
plenty of Braintree ball. The whole scrum was working well.
With Ben and Big Andy adding to the forwards
power myself and Robbie were all over the place.
The second half
saw more of the same, Dan Moseley came on for Andy and with his first touch
powered over the line to score, opposition did not look pleased to see Big
Dan.
Peggy converted this one as it was a bit easier for
him.
Neil Mcm scored the final try to
leave us 34-0.
The back line was a mixture of old and new.
Jake stepping in at fly half gave us an
attacking option with Craig, Lee and Hammer providing the pace on the wings.
Special mention to Rob Jones who played a
blinder at outside centre, he reckons he saw more ball in 15 minutes than in
the whole of a normal game (which is weird as Neal does not usually pass it.)
Braintree are always good opposition
and the game was played in good spirits.
They had plenty of pace in the backs and I
suspect that our away game will be just as hard as this one.
Special mention must go to Jeff the
ref, totally unbiased and talking all the time.
His pre-match warning about over-familiarity,
going down well. Comedy moments-Opposition scrum-half complaining that
Danny Fitz was holding on to his opposite number(crouch, touch and let go,
pause , engage) the opposition prop was horrified - I am not complaining - he
squeaked.
Hammer Harrison getting pinged for
not using his arms in the tackle, as ever he threw himself into the tackle,
the Braintree player diving upwards and then downwards.
Got a right telling off I can tell you.
Dan Moseley scaring the defence rigid by running straight
at several members of them, no one wanting to tackle him.
Tracey was trying to run off a severe vodka induced
hangover, was not happy about the amount of first aid requirements.
Robbie realising that we played 10 minutes more each half
than he is used to and that we had no subs(not for him anyway)
Special mention to the recipient of
the chilli vodka who was spotted projectile vomiting.
MOTM-Barney, who was all over the place. COTM-The opposition chilli vodka boy To view more match reports - click here |
