| Match Report for | Harlow Sinners -v- Black Horse 13th March 2004 |
|
Harlow’s fifth team put up a spirited display against a determined Black Horse side in a tight fought match to win 19 points to 7. The side currently in contention to win their merit table took the lead towards the end of the first half after dominating the scrums and field position. The try that broke the deadlock came about as a result of driving maul; Colin Riches was in the right position and grounded the ball to give Harlow a 5 point lead. Mark Smith then converted to make the score 7-0. The second half saw a substantial change in personnel due to the commitment within the playing side of the club, to see a successful fifth team. These changes represented a commitment, from the sinners, to allow players a chance to get a game. In the opening third of the second half Black Horse made a spirited comeback, thanks mainly to improved scrums and an early second half try. The try was converted and with Harlow looking rocked the second half tension grew. It took a move from the backs to break the Black horse defence for the second try, started by Jon Gagg breaking the game line just past half way, a simple pass to Eifion Harries stretched the visitors defence, Eifion then passed sweetly to Steve Ward who took the pass well, to restore Harlow’s lead. After some near misses by both sides Harlow scored their third and final try courtesy of Joe Hurry, Mark Smiths second successful conversion in windy conditions sealed victory for the sinners. This was welcomed by the players given their recent difficulties at the club. The mood at the end of the afternoon confirmed the team’s commitment to each other and suggested progression in the Greene King cup next week will be a distinct possibility. |
