Charlie Kavanagh

Charlie Kavanagh had two thirds of his right lung removed last Friday in University College Heart Hospital in London in order to remove a characinoid tumour.  He had been ill a number of times over the last eighteen months suffering from among other things pleurisy and pneumonia. Over this period he still carried on playing frequently for the colts; in the light of present knowledge an exceptional commitment.

After eighteen months the doctors only picked up on the tumour when they put a camera down into his lung, subsequently things moved swiftly. Until they operated the surgeons did not know whether they could save the lung at all as they did not know how far it had spread. At the moment he’s very weak but glad to be rid of it as he has been suffering for such a long time. A few of his friends who were aware have visited him, for which he is grateful.  He has now had the last of his tubes out yesterday and may be discharged today or tomorrow.  He will be convalescing for a couple of months so won’t be available to play just yet!!

Everyone at Harlow Rugby Club would like to wish him well; we will keep you posted on his progress and on opportunities for friends to visit him.
