Deeping 15 Harlow 15

Harlow
travelled to Deeping knowing they where going to have to do something very
special to walk away with a win. Deeping has always put out very strong and
well organised pack of forwards and playing in very windy conditions today
was no exception. From the kick off
Harlow tried to
pressure Deeping but the forwards where able to ship the ball out to the
backs and five minutes in to the game Deeping stamped their foot on the
score line with an unconverted try.
Harlow
came back hard and the next 10 minutes of play we tried our hardest to stop
the constant bombardment from the strong Deeping forwards. Eventually
Harlow's
defence failed and Deeping where able to once again break through and run in
another unconverted try.
Harlow's
confidence rocked they spent the rest of the half battling to keep Deeping
from scoring. With some fantastic try saving tackles from Danni who played
full back for the first time and great cover work from Stimpson and McCarthy
stopped the score line being far worse.
Harlow
now faced a huge up hill battle to try and salvage some sort of game but
heads where down and sprits seemed low as the 2nd
half started in the same way as the first. Deeping yet again put on massive
pressure and slowly punched their way down the pitch.
Harlow's
defence was second to none and there hard work finally paid off when a scrum
from our own try line resulted in a miss placed Deeping kick straight down
the throat of Danni who linked up with our superior backs, who flew down the
pitch where Abi was tackled just before the line. The ball was cleaned out
and Number 8 Kelly Cotterill was able to pick and crash over the line for
Harlow's'
first unconverted try.
Harlow
now re energised with a new found confidence took the ball from kick off and
started to take control of the game. The forwards now playing with there
heads up where now able to ship the ball out to our backs it and it was just
a matter if time before Conway took a great pass and was able to break
through 3 Deeping players to run in a 30 yard try under the post to make it
10-10
With scores now level Deeping realised they needed to
up their game as Harlow
wasn't going to lay down and die. Using everything they had they once again
marched up the pitch using there forwards and a scrum on Harlow's try line
yielded another unconverted try.
Harlow showing great sprit wasn't going home with a loss and at the restart
was straight in the faces off Deeping rapping up the receiving player Claire
was able to turn the ball over and giving it to Captain and scrum half Nicky
King who broke clean through a surprised and unorganised Deeping back line
to score the last unconverted try of the day. FINAL SCORE 15-15
