Harlow Minis Shine at Home Festival

Harlow mini rugby section did the club proud at their Harlow Festival on Sunday. They finished first in two age groups and runners up in another two. Perhaps the best news of all was that for many new players who only joined this season it was their first experience of competition. This group included a number of youngsters who recently signed up at the Harlow Town Show.

The under 7 squad finished second to Enfield in their tournament. This is the group where players start the game and for thirteen of the fifteen players it was their first match. The under 8 squad went one better winning their competition. The under 10 squad not to be outdone also won their category in the hardest fought tournament of the festival. They finished equal on points and tries scored with Rochford with whom they ahd already drawn 5 points all. In the play off however they made no mistake winning 15 points to 5 thanks to two good second half tries.

The under 9 squad performed very well finishing second to Rochford. It is at this level that a few of the contact aspects of the game start to be introduced and it is a tribute to the hard work of the coaching team that the youngsters made the transition so well. The under 11 squad finished a creditable third in their competition and included three players making their debut.

Thanks to some serious study over the summer all of the Mini Rugby age groups now have RFU qualified coaches. Because of the big influx of new players this season they are working hard on the basics of the game which makes this an excellent time for new players to join.
