Harlow President’s Team v Brentwood President’s Team As part of Harlow Rugby Clubs’ 50th anniversary celebrations, Presidents’ teams from Harlow and Brentwood consisting mainly of veteran players played a match in honour of Harlows’ first ever fixture on Sunday. The occasion was hugely successful and proved very popular with over fifty players from the two clubs taking part and entertaining a large crowd at Ram Gorse. It provided players from past eras the opportunity to reunite old partnerships and display their talents, if a little slower these days, that contributed so much to the success of past teams. The rugby played by both sides was free flowing, competitive and in exactly the right spirit. The fixture also gave Steve Hodges (56) the opportunity to play alongside his twin sons Lee and James fulfilling a long held ambition. Shaun Roberts who has represented both clubs in the past played for both sides on the day under the watchful eye of his father who refereed. Not once was he penalised but he is now grounded for a month! Harlow ran out 37 – 10 winners but more important was the chance to catch up with old friends, share a few beers and reminisce. Harlow RFC would like to express our sincere thanks to Brentwood, their first opponents 50 years ago, for assembling a side to take part in the celebrations.
