Harlow Vets at the Maldon Tournament

Skipper David Oastler assembled a talented squad for the  Vets Tournament at Maldon on Saturday and they reached the final  of the competition only to be beaten by Romford. In their first game Harlow played the home team, Maldon , and won 12-0, both tries coming in the first half. 

They then played a very strong side from Romford who scored three tries, the Harlow Vets unable to breach the Romford defences. In their final pool game against Westcliff the Rams really got going and the final score was Harlow 46  Westcliff 6. This won Harlow a place in the semi-final and they had to face a Canvey  Island side brimming with confidence.  The Rams started well and a great interception by the sprightly John Price, saw the full back race for the line and pass out to the supporting Mattt Howard who scored. The final result  of the semi-final 7-0 to  Harlow.

In the final the Rams could not contain the physical, forward challenge from Romford and soon found themselves behind. Several  assaults  by Harlow  into   the Romford twenty two were beaten back  and Romford scored two more tries without reply.

Full credit to a Harlow squad,  who in their  first game  together  for several years , played well and competed throughout. David Oastler was delighted with the response from his squad and plans  to arrange more fixtures next season.
