Basildon Colts 0 Harlow Colts 31 The Young Rams forwards dominated the possession in this game from the word go. They were stronger in the set pieces and in the loose play often winning turnover ball. They took the lead after 5 minutes when number 8 Tom Mintoff drove over with the pack behind him. Terry Blackwell converted the try and within five minutes the score was 14-0 when second row James Lewis scored in a very similar situation and Blackwell again converted. Harlow spent the whole
match in Basildon’s half and much of the time in their twenty two. Two more
tries came in quick succession both scored by flanker Dean Read . Neither
was converted and just before half time fly half Dan Hockley chipped
over the advancing defence and collected the bouncing ball to run
through and score, Blackwell’s third conversion gave Harlow a lead of 31-0
at the interval. The second half saw
the Young Rams continuing to dominate but they were unable to add to the
score.

Finchley Under 16’s 34 Harlow Under 16’s 0 A depleted Harlow side travelled to Finchley one player short and found themselves on the defensive from the start. The home side were well organised and forced Harlow to commit players to defence before releasing their speedy three quarters. In the first half the
Young Rams played with a lot of commitment and restricted Finchley to two
breakaway tries. Harlow had several chances but were held up on the line
three times. Harlow continued to
tackle in the second half but as they tired Finchley ran
in four more tries, none of them
converted. A good performance by the Young Rams who kept going to the end.

Saffron Walden Under 15’s 32 Harlow Under 15’s 0 The Harlow lads found themselves at a disadvantage five minutes into this game when number 8 Henry Lunn had to retire injured and having no subs available the Harlow team had to play one short. To their credit Harlow competed throughout the match but were always on the defensive. The score at half time was 17-0 to the home side and Harlow made them work hard for their three tries in the second half. Harlow’s Josh Finch had a fine game, his last for Harlow as he leaves for Australia this week.

The better team, they spent almost the whole of the first half in Finchley’s twenty two but could only score one try. The try scorer, scoring his second for the Club, was winger Curtis Knightley and it was converted by fly half Matt Norris. Harlow continued to attack throughout the second half but were frustrated to see two tries disallowed. As Harlow threw caution to the winds the home side broke away twice and scored two tries to win a match that Harlow should have won.
