Romford Colts 21 Harlow Colts 13 The Young Rams exited
from the Essex Cup in a match which they should have won. Still without fly half
Barney Goodey they nevertheless took a 13-0
lead having scored a try and two penalties. Terry Blackwell , playing at centre, took over the goal kicking duties and slotted over two successful penalties. and a conversion. Flanker James Clark, also deputising in the centre, scored the Harlow try The Young Rams then
relaxed and allowed the home side to .get back into the game with two
penalties and a try to leave the half time score at 13-11 to Harlow. In the second half
Harlow chose to kick for territory rather than running the ball and this
proved to be their undoing. After 20 minutes Romford scored a penalty and
in the last few minutes of the game,
a converted try. Harlow were left disappointed that they had adopted
the wrong tactics and lost the match. However for a
young side they showed lots of promise for next season.

Harlow Under 17’s
13. In a closely fought contest the Young Rams played brilliantly to secure victory over a well drilled Stortford side. Harlow drew first blood
when fly half Danny Smith chipped the ball over the advancing defence to run
through and touch down. The fly half then kicked a successful conversion. Some determined defence
by the Harlow lads , in particular winger Chris Turner, ensured that Harlow
lead 7-0 at the interval. Half way through the
second half Stortford pulled back the 7 points with a well deserved
converted try. Within minutes they had taken the lead scoring a try through
their powerful forwards. The young Rams came
storming back and were awarded two penalties in the dying minutes. Smith
converted both to win the game for Harlow by the narrowest of margins. Full
marks to Harlow’s Connor Byrne , returning from injury after a six month
break, and to two Harlow under 16’s who played up. They were second row
Jordan Dunn and flanker Jack Derby.

Old Verulaniums
Under 15’s
12. Verulaniums turned up at Ram Gorse with 9 players and Harlow agreed to give them two so that the match was played as an 11 a-side game. As a consequence the
Harlow three quarters revelled in the open spaces and ran in 13 tries,
four of them being converted. It was one way traffic
for most of this match and although the visitors battled bravely to gain
possession it was always Harlow who came away with
the ball.
Harlow’s
winger Jamie Sinfield was top scorer with four tries to his name. Other
Harlow try scorers were Lewis Pucill, who scored twice, scrum half Jack
Perry ,and second row Jay
Humphries, Shane Evans, fly half and number 12 Ryan Matthew. In the second half, despite being completely dominated, Veruliams managed to cross the line twice, one of the two tries being converted. For Harlow Ryan Matthew put over three conversions and Jack Parry one. Harlow Under 15’s. Woodford Under
14’s 53. The Junior Rams were completely outplayed by the visitors on Sunday. From the outset the Harlow boys had to defend and thus created few opportunities. Woodford were a big and well drilled side. They soon began to score tries and had crossed the line four times by half time. With two conversions they lead 24-0 at the interval. In the second half Harlow had to defend again and there was some very good tackling from the Junior Rams. They could not , however , prevent Woodford scoring another five tries and two conversions. The Junior Rams did their best despite being rather weakened by absence and school holidays. Harlow Under 14’s. Diss Under 13’s
51. The visitors’ huge pack and well organised three quarter play were in a different class to the newest Harlow side who defended heroically throughout.. Diss sscored three quick tries at the start before the Junior Rams were able to settle down. There was some great defending by the Harlow lads and their heads never dropped despite the scoreline.. Following their success last week Harlow will learn from the experience the boys have gained in this match. Harlow Under 13’s.
