Harlow Ladies 0 Reading Ladies
15
RFUW South East Div 2
On
Sunday the Harlow Ladies were at home
to Reading in the
south-east and
league division 2. The
outcome was a
win to Reading by
its 15 points
to nil but
this is a
scoreline which
does not do
justice to the
committed performance
of Harlow Ladies.
Both Reading tries
came from
scrambled defensive positions
which could
have gone either
way. Despite
giving away
considerable amounts of
weight in the
pack the Harlow
forwards played
a committed
and aggressive game
and held their own.
Despite being
driven back in
the set scrums
Gizzi at hooker
took a ball
cleanly and
King at scrum
half coped
well with possession
despite being
forced back.
The Harlow backs
were prepared
to work extremely
hard in
defence and their
cover tackling
was extremely good.
On a number
of occasions
players and looked
to have broken
clear or were
taken out by
committed low tackles.
Harlow ladies
had to
undertake a lot
of team
building is season
and many of
the new
players are beginning
to show the
ability necessary
to play rugby
at this level
and to be
part a winning
team. Harlow
backs have real
pace and when
they have ball
ability to
split most defences
open. The
one area
where Harlow would benefit
would be from
a little more
weight in the
scrum which
would take some
of the stress
of their lighter players
and allow them
to use their
pace to great
refract. The
ladies are
still keen to
recruit more
players and anyone
interested is
invited come all
on Monday
evenings. Many
of the more
successful players
in the team
had no
experience of rugby
on joining although
some of them
had played
other team games
successfully.
New players
receive full tuition at
their own pace and only
take part in
matches when
they feel they
are ready.
