Harlow ladies finish season on a high noteHarlow ladies finished their playing season on a high note producing a good performance in the West Norfolk tournament. This competition attracts a number of strong teams and last season they played with great commitment but came away without a win. This year they won two out of their five games and held the overall runners up Blackheath to a 10 – 0 margin. The first Harlow victory came against Daventry where they recorded a score of 20 points to 5. Tries came from Nicola King, her first ever score for Harlow; Kelly Cotterill plus two from Rebecca Nichol. Their other win was over the home side West Norfolk by 20 points to nil. Nicola King scores again with the second try from Clare Phillips and again Rebecca Nichol grabbed 2. This victory was doubly important because the league game between the two clubs had been postponed earlier in the season and they agreed to play it as a double header. It therefore give Harlow their third league win of the season and should clinch their third place which they had only been holding on points difference.
Harlow lost to the eventual winners Saracens B by 49 points to nil and to Shelford. Their 10 nil defeat by Blackheath could b considered a success against a side who play three leagues above them.
Harlow took the bold step of joining the league for the first time this year. The squad is improving and new members who welcome the challenge of league rugby are joining all the time. They plan some hard work over the Summer so that at the start of next season they will hit the ground running. |
