Harlow Rugby Club Milestones. This weekend Harlow first team are at home in the league to third placed Westcliff. They are top try scorers in the league and will present a tough challenge. The Rams however have another reason to pull the stops out this weekend. It is exactly 50 years ago that former club president the late Ron Bracewell placed an advert in the local papers inviting anyone in the new town of Harlow who was interested in rugby to attend a meeting at the Essex Skipper. The outcome of that meeting was the formation of Harlow Rugby Club.
The club will be celebrating this important anniversary with a pre-match lunch for former players and a post match disco in the evening. On Sunday a team of former Harlow players will dust off their boots and take to the field against a combined Essex Police and Fire Services XV. A similar game was held last season in memory of Peter Carr but the club would like to dedicate this game to all members who are no longer with us. There is a growing view is that this should become an annual fixture as a chance to celebrate the club’s history and to remember absent friends.
A great game of rugby is in prospect with many players from the club’s most successful seasons and, at the last count, eight former first team captains turning out. Kick off is scheduled for 1.45. |
