Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up Sunday 24th October 2004. Harlow Colts 29 Bury Colts 28. Three wins in a row for the Young Rams who just edged out a young Bury side in a cliff hanger at Ram Gorse on Sunday. A last attack by Harlow in the final seconds of the game saw O’Dell put a penalty in the corner for a Harlow line out. Kane Claridge, Harlow’s number 8, won the ball and following the drive for the Bury line it was second row Charlie Harris who touched down, Harlow winning by one point. Earlier the Bury boys had raced to a 20-5 lead by half time, Harlow’s only points coming from hooker Dan Newbury from a scrum. The tricky and fast running Bury three quarters had cut through the Harlow defence whenever the visitors had won possession from the dominant Harlow pack. Harlow’s revival began with a try from winger Tom Smith who cut inside his marker to score. Another Harlow attack then foundered when the halfbacks lost possession but as Bury tried to run the ball from their own twenty two it was Jake Kent-Pope who anticipated the pass and intercepted to race over the goal line. O’Dell’s conversion went in from the upright. Bury hit back with a penalty before another line out deep in the Bury half saw Claridge crash over to put Harlow in the lead when his try was converted by O’Dell.Bury were not finished and a kick over the defence by their winger, which he ran onto to beat the Harlow defence and score gave them a lead of four points with only minutes left. The Young Rams however came back again and Harris’s try gave them the victory they had worked so hard for by one point. Harlow Colts. Scrum half Neil Fitxpatrick was however the man of the match showing an incredible work rate throughout. Winger David Hearn also played well grabbing two tries and Harlow’s under 16 who played, Matt Jarvis at flanker acquitted himself well. Harlow’s best try came from Adam Smith, flanker, the ball coming out of Harlow’s twenty two and taken up the field with some great support play. Other try scorers were Darren Quinton on the wing, Tom Brennan, second row and Kos Guernico playing in the centre. Skipper Charlie Kavanagh was successful with two conversions. Harlow Under 17’s. With five under fifteens performing up a year and prop James Pike making his debut for Harlow, it was a while before the Young Rams subdued a young Bury side. Still unbeaten in a game this season, the Young Rams soon got down to work, Number 8 Lee Mulvey outstanding and scoring their first two tries. Other members of the Harlow pack, second row Mitchell Wilson and prop Mobashar Mahmood also scored tries. Harlow lead by 20 points to nil at half time, Aled Hills conversions hitting the crossbar and the upright but failing to get over.Flanker Andrew Swanton played very well his play in the loose most impressive. The Harlow threequarters also got in on the act with David Jones at outside centre scoring a try and Ian Adams, the Harlow skipper also scoring. Just before the final whistle under 15 Ross King also went over, Hills having two conversions in the second half. Harlow Under 16’s. Harlow Under 13’s 0. The Junior Rams almost scored after five minutes of excellent attacking rugby but the home side came straight back and with the referee’s giving them the benefit of the doubt scored the only try of the game. Harlow’s tackling was immense and as they gained in confidence they were able to go on the offensive. Harlow’s fly half Jason Gibbs was outstanding in attack and defence. Despite finishing the game with only thirteen men due to injuries Harlow contained the home side comfortably and were unlucky not to score themselves. Harlow Under 13’s.
