Harlow Rugby Club
Youth Round Up Sunday 30th October 2005.
Saracens Colts 31 Harlow Colts 17.
Although always under pressure from a heavier pack Harlow
fell behind during this match but never accepted defeat until the final
whistle scoring two converted tries and a penalty as they kept coming back
at the home side.
Saracens took the lead with a try which was not converted
after two minutes but Harlow hit back with a Wayne Heapy penalty seven
minutes later. Within ten minutes Harlow were well behind the home side
having scored two more tries both converted . The Young Rams came back and
prop Danny Stonehouse crashed over to score a try which was converted by
Heapy leaving them trailing 10-19 at the interval. Following a fifteen
minutes period in the second half Harlow fell further behind to another
converted try and two minutes later their defence was breached again and
Saracens lead by 31-10 but Harlow continued to press forward and had the
last word when inside centre Heapy crossed the line himself and then
converted the try .
A defeat for the Young Rams but no disgrace.

Harlow Under 17’s 10 Bishops Stortford Under 17’s 5.
Since these two teams were under 13’s their matches have
always been close contests and Sunday’s match at Ram Gorse was no exception.
The Harlow pack had the upper hand when they rucked and mauled more
efficiently than the visitors but Stortford had the better of the
Scrummages. In the line outs Harlow’s Jack Elston was outstanding and stole
the ball on several occasions. Both sides created opportunities in a
scoreless first half but both defended well and were unable to profit from
their efforts. Following a period of pressure from Stortford at the
beginning of the second half Steven Barnard picked the ball up from a ruck
in his own half and released Ian Adams who passed out to full back Ricky
Ford coming into the line at pace. His run down the wing took Harlow up to
the twenty two and he cut inside before passing to the outside centre Dan
Jones who made it over the line.
The visitors retaliated with a well worked try by their left
wing who had looked dangerous earlier and who was strong enough to break the
tackle of the full back and cross the line. With the scores level both sides
fought for the winner and Stortford dominated territorially but very good
defence from Harlow kept them out. With ten minutes to go the Harlow
forwards worked their way up into the twenty two and flanker Liam Brown
picked up from the ruck and scored. Stortford tried to come back but ran out
of time.

Harlow Under 16’s 5 Camberley 52.
With four of their best players selected to play for the
Essex Team which played today against Herts Harlow found the going hard
against a strong side from Camberley.
They were put under pressure from the beginning and the
visitors raced to a 38-0 lead at half time. Harlow fought back in the second
half and Stefan Archer playing at centre scored a well deserved try but the
Junior Rams were outclassed and conceded another two converted tries during
the second period.
The four Harlow boys chosen for Essex are James Clark, Luke
Bowering, Jamie Clark and Michael Weston.

Stanford-Le-Hope Under 14’s 27 Harlow Under 14’s 42.
Harlow played their best rugby of the season to run in six
tries against a game Stanford side. Harlow’s Joe Pite playing at inside
centre lead the way with four tries, fly half Danny Smith and outside centre
Jordan Cable scored one each as the Harlow three quarters showed how to
profit from well won possession spun wide.
Harlow’s Danny Smith was also on target with his kicking as
he converted all six tries. This was a great team performance from the
Junior Rams who worked together throughout and gained a well deserved
victory.

Woodford Under 13’s 50 Harlow Under 13’s 0.
Woodford’s huge squad proved to be too much for a Harlow side
with four players making their debut. The home side had a strong pack who
dominated possession but the Harlow boys never gave up and were only 19-0
down at half time. They then kept Woodford out for the first fifteen minutes
of the second half but as they tired so Woodford ran in the tries. The new
boys were Greg Norris, Sami Abysalem, Scott Cunningham and Terry Dover.

Harlow celebrated their new sponsorship deal with the Essence
of India Restaurant with three well taken tries in this game at Cambridge
but had to concede defeat when the home side kicked a successful penalty in
the last few minutes.
Harlow had earlier scored through Skipper Kelly Cotterill
playing at number 8 , her try converted by Nicky Millman. Their second try
came from scrum half Nicky King to leave the scores level at 12 all at half
time. Harlow fell further behind but then outside centre Sarah Stimpson
intercepted a stray Cambridge pass ten metres from her own goal line and
sprinted the length of the field to equalise. Harlow fought hard for the
winner but were reduced to fourteen players when Charlotte Stead broke her
ankle twenty minutes into the game.
