Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up  Sunday 4th December 2005.

Harlow Colts  14   Thurrock Colts  14.

With ten minutes left to play Harlow pulled themselves back into this game when they forced a five metre scrum in the Thurrock twenty two. Although they found the going hard against a solid Thurrock pack Harlow’s scrum half disrupted the opposition’s  possession at the tail of the scrum and the Harlow back row won the ball. Skipper Ross Delgreco crashed through the visitors’ defence to score and centre Wayne Heapy made no mistake with the conversion despite the pressure.

Having fallen behind in the first half Harlow forced their way back when Kane Claridge won the ball in a line out and made a strong run into the Thurrock twenty two. His pass to Danny Stonehouse gave the prop enough space to power his way over the line. Heapy made an excellent conversion to level the scores at half time.

After another spell of pressure by the Young Rams Thurrock broke away to score their second try. They created several chances close to the Harlow line and eventually broke through. The Harlow boys responded well and kept pressing forward their reward the DelGreco try. In the dying minutes Harlow had two long range penalty attempts but were unable to clinch victory.

Hertford Under 17’s  31  Harlow Under 17’s  0.

The score belies the effort Harlow put into this game and flatters the home side. The Young Rams actually crossed the line three times but all three efforts were disallowed. Hertford scored two tries in a first half which was quite closely fought. Harlow were disallowed two efforts because the referee adjudged that they were held up when they crossed the line.

Trailing by 0-12 at the interval Harlow performed with little spirit in the second half. Flanker Matt Jarvis went over the try line but failed to ground the ball and the home side scored another three tries. Harlow will have to play much better than this if they are to get through their Essex Cup game against Brentwood next week.

Harlow Under 17’s. Mamood, Davies, Pike, Elston, Swanton, Jarvis, Barnard, Ellis, Woodington, Hills, Adams (Capt.), Jones, Ford, Marriage, Clark, Tucker.

Chelmsford Under 16’s  15  Harlow Under 16’s  5.

The Harlow boys took ten minutes to get into this game at Chelmsford and by the time they had begun to play they were two tries down. With the score at 12-0 the Young Rams woke up and started to play to their form. They worked their way into the Chelmsford twenty two and, when play broke down from a maul ten metres out, it was flanker James Clark, playing at the unaccustomed position of prop, who won the ball and burst over the line.

In the second half Harlow kept up the pressure and were unlucky not to score but it was the home side who got the points with a well struck penalty in the last minute of the game.

Harlow Under 16’s. Clark.James, Barnes, Carter, Ansell, Edwards, Clark.Jamie, Reed, Weston, Hockley, Goodey, Jenna, Bowering, Archer, Treves, King.

Harlow Under 15’s  0  Ampthill Under 15’s  46.

After a rather lack lustre first half that left the Junior Rams trailing 0-36 at half time, the team produced a remarkable second half performance. They conceded only two further tries despite finishing with only fourteen players. Some excellent tackling from Michael Blair and Lewis Alderman was a plus feature. Good attacking running from Rhys Adams almost won Harlow a score with some strong support play by Ray Tovey and Calum Potter. Still a relatively new side the boys are making excellent progress and have a great team spirit.

Harlow Under 15’s. Renney, Bowie, Mintoff, Saville, Blair, Alderman, Ellis, Seale, McFarlane, Plummer, Newman, Potter, Tovey, Adams, Collins.

Harlow Under 13’s  0  Thurrock Under 13’s  13.

The Junior Rams were unlucky not to score in this game which saw them defending for long periods in the first half. They tackled very well and only conceded one try and a penalty during the first period. In the second half they spent some time in the Thurrock twenty two but couldn’t cross the line. Their attack faltered when Skipper Denzil Crafton had to leave the field with an injury but they still pressed forward. Eventually Thurrock broke away to score their second try but the Harlow boys kept going until the final whistle.
