Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up.                                  1st February 2004.

Harlow Under 16’s   44   Sudbury Under 16’s  0.

The visitors made the Young Rams work hard for their tries throughout competing well in the set pieces and tackling hard but the Harlow three quarters were too strong and fast and Skipper Charlie Kavanagh kicked well with the wind to keep Sudbury pinned back in their half.

Harlow’s two props Nick Townsend and Kos Guernico both scored in the first half, winger Ross Barrs try following a sweeping backs move sandwiched between the two. With a conversion from Kavanagh it was 17-0 to Harlow at half time.

A speculative kick forward by Kavanagh lead to Harlow’s fourth try. Seamus O’Brien caught the full back as he cleared and his kick fell to full back Laurence Griffin whose speed took him around the defence to score. Harlow scored further tries from back row partners Lee Jessey and Mark Barr, who had come on at half time. Kavanagh added a try to his earlier conversion and Guernico finished a sparkling performance with his second try which Jessey converted. This was a great result for the Young Rams whose form has recently been indifferent.

The Harlow pack commanded most of the possession in this game although Clapton challenged them in the loose play. The three Harlow tries all came from their three quarters and if the pack had spun the ball out more often they could have scored more.

Outside centre Ricky Ford scored Harlow’s first try, hisb strtength taking him past the defence and wing Daniel Jones showed a fine turn of speed to cross the line and put Harlow 10-0 up at half time.

In the second half with the wind behind them Clapton rallied and put pressure on Harlow’s line but the visitors’ defence held and it was Skipper Ian Adams who scored Harlow’s third try to seal the victory.
