Harlow Rams travelled into the unknown to Luton for their final warm up game before their big Essex Cup match and vital league match against Southend and Chelmsford respectively in the next two weeks.

We had never played the hosts before and had no idea of their quality or form. With this in mind coach Digga Hartley started with his strongest 15 but gave all his squad players a run out in the second half.

The match started with Harlow absorbing a long period of pressure before a brilliant solo run by inside centre Mason Sharpe to score under the posts, (5-0), conv Mo Copley (7-0).

Unfortunately Luton hit back straight from the restart, (7-5). Again we were put under a lot of pressure but held out almost to half time when we were awarded a scrum in their 22, which was won by them against the put in and a great move by their backs saw them score just before the half time whistle, (7-12). HT.

In the second half a more experimental formation with new players saw the opposition gradually take charge through their very good number 12 a Northampton Saints development player. A quick tap and go penalty caught  us asleep for them to run in untackled under the posts 7-19. However, we hadn’t given up and a great tap and go penalty saw no. 8 Liam Jones run in under the posts, (12-19). From then on they took control and scored at regular intervals. We did have our chances throughout  the second half both out wide were poor decision making saw us waste try scoring chances and a brilliant forward drive at 12-24 came to nothing, even after a brilliant charge down by prop Mitch Youngs in their try area went behind their dead ball line.

The final score didn’t reflex the play of two fairly well matched teams .We seem to run out of steam a little after a long journey and a tough match last week. Their coach said after it was the toughest match they have had this season.

However, the big games are in the next two weeks at home which will define our season.

Some good work by many of our players with long periods of tough defending, with the scrum working a bit better this week.

On a damp and misty morning at Ram Gorse Harlow took on SWF in what turned out to be a keenly contested match with a committed attitude from both sets of players. Whilst SWF took the early lead with a brace of tries Harlow fought back valiantly with a series of powerful forward phases of play and were rewarded when No. 8 Dan Stevenson crashed over the line to score and duly converted by Jack Almond. HT 7:10

The second half had a sense of déjà vu with SWF scoring twice early on, only for Harlow to mount a charge with prop Shakur Dixon-Chennis repelling tackle after tackle and scoring a well earned try. With the score at 12-22 and time fast running out Harlow went looking for another score only to be out manoeuvred with SWF scoring the final points of the game. FT 12:27

Thanks to SWF for supplying the referee so the game could go ahead and well done to Hooker Adam Seeley for his tireless work and man of the match performance. (Still not sure about that sidestep Adam!)

Playing down the slope in the first half Harlow took the lead with a penalty from Kurtis 3-0

With good defending from both sides and a hard game of rugby with some very hard tackles from both sides Upminster managed to break through Harlows defence and scored under the posts and conversion successful 3-7

Harlow replied back from a scrum outside Upminster's 22 Andre scrum half picked the ball up from the back of the scrum to run to the try Line with Dominic in support he offloaded for him to score Conversion successful by Kurtis 7-10

With 5 mins remaining of the first half Harlow was pressuring Upminster but they could not break their defence Harlow was then awarded a penalty of which was kicked successful by Kurtis 14-13

Half Time

Second half playing up the hill, again both teams defence was strong and fiesty But due to no games for the last 3 weeks started to show Harlows match fitness wasn't up to their usual standard which allowed Upminster 2 more tries and 1 conversions 26-13

Harlow was disallowed a try due to double movement, plus they had 2 tries held up and 1 dropped ball by Kurtis but they kept their heads and spirits up and from a line out the ball was caught by Harlow and with good hands passed to Dominic which allowed him to score his second try in the corner conversion missed 26-18 final score
