Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up  Sunday 5th February 2006.

Southend Under 17’s 12 Harlow Under 17’s  17.

Despite having to loan two players and being reduced to fourteen players for the whole of the second half, The Young Rams battled it out against a powerful set of forwards and played excellent rugby to beat Southend.

Harlow took the lead when number 8 Chris Ellis took a quick tap penalty from ten metres out. The Harlow pack drove forward and Skipper Ian Adams picked up the ball to cross the line from short range. Southend equalised with an unconverted try but Harlow had the initiative with two tries disallowed during the rest of the first half.

After the interval the Young Rams went further ahead when a kick upfield from their own twenty two was chased down and the Harlow pack won possession. It was prop Mubashar Mamood who crashed over to score under the posts and Aled Hills’ conversion gave Harlow a lead of 12-5.

Harlow again stole possession in their own twenty two and Adams, Hills and Jake Tucker attacked down the left flank before putting full back Ricky Ford away to score. The home side pulled one back with ten minutes to go but Harlow kept them in their own half for the remaining time and came away worthy winners.

Basildon Under 16’s  14  Harlow Under 16’s  15.

A second try from number eight Michael Weston a few minutes before the final whistle proved to be the winner in this very close game at Basildon.

Harlow took the lead when Weston broke free to score after five minutes and this was still the score at half time.

In the second half Harlow extended their lead with a well worked try from scrum half Dan Hockley. From a scrum Hockley passed to number ten Barney Goodey who stepped inside his man and slipped the ball back to Hockley who cut through the gap.

Then Basildon hit back and with two converted tries were leading 14-10 until the last few minutes when Weston again scored a try.

Harlow worked hard for their win and deserved the victory.

Harlow Under 15’s 41  Basildon Under 15’s  12.

With a great display of attacking rugby Harlow beat Basildon with a very convincing win. Harlow got off to a great start when James Lewis picked the ball up from a ruck and powered over from ten metres. Constant pressure form the Junior Rams brought two more quick tries from prop McFarlane and Michael Blair. Then Alex Plummer scored a great try following a mazy run leaving opponents flat footed before scrum half Mark Ellis broke through the defence to give Harlow a lead of 31-0 at half time.

Basildon fought back bravely in the second half to score two tries before the Rams re-aligned. After some good passing between the backs they scored two further tries, the try scorers Plummer and John Collins.

Fly half Lewis Alderman capped a fine performance with four conversions. The team played their best rugby of the season to date and were rewarde with a well deserved win which fully reflected their efforts.

Harlow Under 15’s.  Drake, Renney, Saville, Plummer, Galloway, Alderman, Ellis, Potter, McFarlane, Lewis, Shawe, Tovey, Mintoff, Collins, Blair, Adams.

Basildon Under 14’s  53  Thurrock  Under 14’s  24.

Playing against a side which contained at least six County players Harlow put in a dazzling display of forward play and expansive back play.

Thurrock profited by a lack of concentration from the Harlow three quarters in the first half stealing three tries but Harlow held their resolve and fought back with a try from centre Joe Pite. In the second half the Harlow pack dominated the rucks and scrummaged superbly. Continued pressure from the centres resulted in two more tries both scored by Pite and both converted by scrum half Danny Smith.

Thurrock continued to match Harlow for tries but the Harlow backs played well with their forwards in support to provide quick ruck ball. They continued to run the ball and were rewarded with a fourth try when flanker Adam Davison fought his way over the line. The Thurrock backs eventually took control as Harlow ran out of steam but despite losing the Junior Rams had made a great impact on a strong Thurrock side who, at times, were made to look ordinary.
