Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up  Sunday 19th February 2006.

Harlow Under 17’s  17   Wanstead Under 17’s  14.

Despite being several regular players short because of injury and illness the Young Rams showed tremendous commitment and determination to gain revenge on a Wanstead side who had beaten them by 39 points to nil in October.

Harlow’s pack fought hard to gain more than their fair share of possession and were at their best when within reach of the goal line. The first try came when prop Mubashar Mamood typically peeled off a rolling maul ten metres out and crashed over the line.

The Young Rams went further ahead when flanker Liam Brown shrugged off defenders and scored the first of his two tries which was converted by Skipper Ian Adams. Wanstead began to put on some pressure and having missed a penalty they worked hard to pull back a try which was converted. Harlow went for another score on the stroke of half time and the rolling maul crossed the line but the referee was unsighted and could not award the try.

In the second half Harlow again went on the offensive,a feature was some strong running from wing Shane McNamara, but Wanstead defended well. The visitors then worked their way up field and broke away with an interception to score a second converted try to take the lead 14-12.

The Young Rams dominated the rest of the half mounting a series of attacks on the line before the forwards again took charge mauling the ball from ten metres out for Brown to score his second try. They created further chances but had to settle for a narrow but well deserved victory.

Harlow Under 16’s 0  Brentwood Under 16’s  5.

The Harlow boys did very well against a team who had put forty points on them earlier in the season and despite having more of the possession were unable to score.

The visitors scored their try after the first ten minutes when their fly half intercepted a wayward pass and scored a very good solo try which was not converted.

Harlow worked hard to get into Brentwood’s territory but tended to break down five metres short.

Beau Asprey playing in the pack had a promising debut and prop Dan Carter featured well in attack and defence.

The Harlow boys did not allow the visitors to score again but despite their best efforts could not break down the defence. However a pleasing result against a well drilled side.

The Junior Rams found the going tough against a well drilled home side with a massive squad of players allowing them to change seven players at half time, several of them Essex players. Harlow played well for the first twenty minutes putting together some fine moves centres Joe Pite and Jordan Cable both playing well. Brentwood eventually scored seven minutes before half time spinning the ball wide from a ruck. They then wheeled the scrum illegally to set up their second try on the stroke of half time to lead 12-0.

In the second half Harlow continued to tackle well and keep the ball moving but found themselves under increasing pressure as the half time substitutes gave the home side fresh energy. They allowed Brentwood to run in four more tries but still pressed forward  and were rewarded with a try from centre Jordan Cable who took the ball from a ruck on the right flank and then sprinted clear to score in the left hand corner. Scrum half Danny Smith put over a very difficult conversion to seal a fine performance by the Junior Rams.

Sorry no team list.

Harlow Under 13’s  22  Brentwood Under 13’s  0.

The Junior Rams fully deserved this convincing victory over Brentwood with inside centre Jake Bessant scoring a hat trick of tries.

The Junior Rams celebrated their first win since December with a great overall performance. They tackled well and kept the visitors penned in their own half for long periods of play. Bessant broke through twice in the first half to give Harlow a ten point lead before scrum half Ryan Clark added a try of his own and the Junior Rams changed around 15 points up.

In the second half Harlow continued to play well and Bessant scored his third which fly half Ryan McGlone converted.
