Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up Sunday 26th February 2006. Harlow Colts 19 Saracens Colts 17. This game came to life in the second half, the introduction of three under 17’s for Harlow bringing fresh enthusiasm to the home side. The first half started with an attack by the visitors which lead to a try, Harlow making a mess of a clearance kick following a scrum five which the opposing scrum half pounced on. Harlow responded with some driving surges by their pack and having weathered another spell of attacking by Saracens they then spent the remaining twenty minutes in the Saracens’ half, most of the time in the twenty two. Desipte several rucks on the line and three tap penalties, while the Saracens number 8 was in the sin bin for ten minutes, the Young Rams could not score. After the interval prop Mubashar Mamood, lock Jack Elston and hooker Chris Davis came on to join their under 17 team mate Martin Jarvis playing at flanker. The second half began with some pressure from Harlow in the Saracens twenty two and Jake Kent-Pope hacked on following a handling error and touched down to level the scores. The visitors hit back with a converted try from a rolling maul to regain the lead but it was short lived. Harlow forced a penalty ten metres out and Skipper Danny Stonehouse broke through, Martyn O’Dell converting the try. With the play now end to end it was Saracens who scored another good try but the kick from the corner was unsuccessful leaving the score at 12-17. The Young Rams pressed forward again in the dying minutes of the game and forced another handling error on the Saracens’ line. This time it was O’Dell who scored, the fly half the first to react and touch down. His conversion brought the winning points and Harlow were delighted with a well earned victory. Harlow Colts. Aled played at inside centre. Harlow Under 16’s 0 Romford Under 16’s 23. Harlow did well to keep the score down against a well drilled Romford side who used the boot to good effect keeping the Young Rams penned in their own half for long periods. Indeed the home side’s points came from three well struck penalties and two tries, both converted. Harlow found themselves on the defensive for long spells but tackled well to keep the score down. By contrast the Harlow boys were unable to set up an attacking platform and could not penetrate. Romford , who beat Harlow in the cup earlier this season , deserved their win but full credit to the young Rams who kept going until the end. Harlow Under 16’s. Harlow Under 13’s 0 Upper Clapton Under 13’s 33. The Junior Rams competed well in the first half against a powerful Upper Clapton set of forwards and conceded only two tries. They all tackled well despite the size of the opposition but in the second half found the going harder the final score being 33-0. Harlow U.13’s.
