Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up Sunday 12th March 2006. Harlow Colts 10 Shelford Colts 12. It was a mixture of ill discipline and casual play which cost Harlow this match which they should have won. With a bare fifteen to begin with Harlow then lost Jake Kent-Pope with a damaged thigh muscle twenty minutes into the game and had to play on with fourteen men. Having taken the lead in the first few minutes when from a line out they mauled their way up to Shelford’s line for prop Lewis Emery to crash over, some sloppy tackling allowed the visitors to overtake them when their winger went over, the conversion adding two points. The Young Rams did well to contain the Shelford backs without Kent-Pope restricting them to one further try to leave the score at 5-12 at half time. The second half was played in Shelford’s half for most of the time but Harlow’s only reward came when Delgreco broke away and ran towards the goal line from twenty metres braking tackles. He popped the pass to Skipper Danny Stonehouse who scored. Harlow continued to press but kept giving away penalties in the Shelford twenty two and allowing the visitors to clear their lines. The last kick of the match was a long range penalty attempt from Martyn O’Dell but the ball just drifted wide and Harlow had to settle for defeat. Harlow Colts. Emery, Stonehouse (Capt.), Delgreco, Thomas, Brennan, Quinton, Rundell, Claridge, Fitzpatrick, O’Dell, Kent-Pope, Banks, Mouncey, Coleman, Dunn. Upminster Under 17’s 7 Harlow Under 17’s 17. Harlow travelled to Upminster two players short but the hosts were good enough to lend them two props and the two Upminster boys shone in a poor first half. Harlow had the wind behind them but failed to make use of it and the half time score was 0-0, Harlow’s best chance a disallowed try from Mamood. After the interval the Young Rams began to exert some pressure and it paid off when from a tap penalty second row Mubashar Mamood won the ball at the ruck and made no mistake. Upminster then came into the game and scored a try which was converted to take the lead. Wing Jake Tucker went off the field injured reducing Harlow to fourteen but they went on the offensive again making ground with a long distance maul from which Mamood again peeled off to score. Scrum half Charlie Woodington kicked the conversion. The Young Rams then had to defend well and eventually from a maul on the half way line hooker Chris Davis broke away and ran fifty metres to score out wide.Harlow deserved their win havging taken their chances well. Harlow Under 17’s. Davis, Mamood, Elston, Jarvis, Barnard, Ellis, Woodington, Hills, Adams (Capt.), Jones, Marriage, Tucker, Ford. Conn Cup:Chingford. Harlow Under 16’s knocked out in Semi final. Harlow Under 16’s did well to reach the semi-final of this cup ocmpetition neating Barking and Basildon in their pool matches. They then lost to Braintree 0=15 in the semi’s but had a good day. Their first match was against Barking who they beat 5-0, Harlow’s try coming from prop James Clark. They then came up against the hosts Chingford who went on to win the Cup. They lost to Chingford 0-15 but found their form again in beating Basildon 15-0. Tries were scored by number 7 Jamie Clark, number 8 Michael Weston and second row Gavin Daglish who scored his first ever try for Harlow after five years in the squad. The boys played well but Braintree were too strong for them in the Semi-Final. Harlow Under 16’s. Carter, Mortimer, Clark.James, Ansell, Daglish, Ashcroft, Clark.Jamie, Weston, Goodey, Hockley, Edwards, Bowering, Archer, Hitchcock, King, Law, Read, Jenna, Barnes. Harlow Under 15’s 24 Braintree Under 15’s 5. Improving all the time the Harlow Under Fifteens played their best rugby of the season to date in doing the double over a plucky Braintree side. The Harlow pack were on top throughout and it was prop Tom Shawe who opened the scoring rounding off some excellent forward driving play. Inside centre Joe Heeney then finished off a slick handling move from the three quarters, his try being converted by fly half Lewis Alderman. Harlow’s other prop Dean McFarlane then made a bullocking run through the Braintree defence to put the Junior Rams 17-0 up before Braintree’s only try which came just before the half time whistle. In the second half Braintree defended better and Harlow scored only once when following some clever handling Joe Heeney scored his second try with a darting run. Skipper Alderman was again successful with the conversion rounding off a competent performance by the Junior Rams. Harlow Under 15’s. Drake, O’Donovan, Madden, Heeney, Alderman (Capt.), Ellis, McFarlane, Potter, Shawe, Mintoff, Tovey, Neal, Blair, Collins, Dean, Newman, Lewis. Old Albanians Under 14’s 0 Harlow Under 14’s 38. This was a spectacular display of rugby against a well drilled O.A’s side. The forwards put in a tough rampaging performance producing more than their fair share of possession for the backs. Harlow centres put their opposite numbers under intense pressure resulting in two first half tries for Jordan Cable and one for Joe Pite. The second half started off as the first had finished with the Harlow pack dominating the possession and feeding their three quarters. Cable and Pite scored another try apiece before full back Alfie Elston was pushed on twenty five metres Scrum half Danny Smith converted four of the six tries and flanker Adam Davison deserves a special mention for giving an excellent performance playing out of position at tight head prop. Harlow Under 14’s. Heeney, Hayden, Davison, Harris, Dimaile, Palmer, Doherty, Hammond, Sanderson, Gregory, Smith, Pite, Cable, Almond, McWilliams, Mortimer, Enifer, Elston, Burroughs. South Woodham Ferrars Under 13’s 5 Harlow Under 13’s 0. Harlow’s ferocious tackling and driving forward play unsettled the home side who are unbeaten this season. Despite having to defend for long spells Harlow worked hard and were disappointed to see South Woodham Ferrars score ten minutes before half time. From a five metre scrum the Harlow fly half appeared to have grounded the ball before the Home side flanker touched down but the Referee awarded a try. In the second half Harlow continued to play some of their best rugby of the season but were unable to penetrate the South Woodham defence and had to accept defeat having played very well. Harlow Under 13’s. Wootton, Weiland, Turner, Norris, Flynn, Bessant, West, Mortimer, Elmer, Stokes, Blackman, Clark, McGlone, Monaf, Absolom, Cunningham, Doyle, Clark.R, Salisbury. Next Week.
