Harlow Rugby Club Youth Round Up.                                  21st March 2004.

Harlow Colts   64    West Norfolk Colts   0.

Fly half Martin O’Dell was the architect of this comprehensive victory at Ram Gorse on Sunday. The under 17 scored two tries and converted six in gusty conditions as well as dictating the flow of play. With the Harlow pack dominant, three tries in the first half came from the Harlow backs as O’Dell scored two and Alasdair Phillips one to give the Young Rams a first half lead of 17-0.

In the second half the brave opposition of the visitors crumbled under the onslaught of the Harlow forwards and tries came from prop Danny Lane (2), number 8 Scott Thorne, hooker Scott Romaine and second row Robert Cochrane, whon also scored twice.

Outside centre James McFerran also got into the act with a try and conversion to seal a comfortable win.

The Young Rams struggled against the slope and the wind in the first half and conceded only two unconverted tries, thanks to some dogged defence. In the second half the forwards forced a maul ten metres out and flanker Adam Smith pealed off to cross the line.

Number 8 Lee Jessey had an excellent game and broke away through defenders before passing the ball to winger Mark Rundle who scored the equalising try.

Jessey again was in action when ne won the ball in broken play in his own twenty two and sprinted through the opposition almost the length of the field before he was tackled a few yards short. The winningtry came from another break by Jessey, who made ground into Barking’s twenty two and passed to Rundle. The winger was stopped but got the ball to Seamus O’Brien who wriggled out of one tackle and scrambled over the line. Skipper Charlie Kavanagh kicked the conversion and Harlow  dfended well until the end to record a well deserved win.

Flanker Matt Jarvis extended the lead when he broke through the middle and scored Harlow’s second try, converted by Joe Hynes.

In the second half the Young Rams continued their stranglehold on the possession and kept Wanstead in their own half.

It was Matt Aiton who scored the next try as the Harlow backs moved the ball wide and the outside centre went for the line being driven  over by the Harlow pack, up in support.
