Harlow U17’s 34 – 10 Datchworth U17’s
Harlow U17’s were host to Datchworth on Sunday
in a friendly match.
After an even first 10 minutes it was Harlow who
registered first on the
scoreboard. The hosts swept into the opposition
22, where Datchworth were
penalised for going off their feet. Skipper
Denzel Crafton made no mistake with
the 3 points. Datchworth immediately responded
by applying some pressure from
an interception. After a few phases they span
the ball out wide, and took
advantage of an overlap to take the lead.
Conversion missed. The conceded try
seemed to spark Harlow into action, with
Andrew Goodchild powering through four tackles
to score and immediately re-take
the lead. Conversion kicked. Much of the
remainder of the first half was played
in neutral territory, but Harlow controlled
much of the play, and were persistently
dangerous out wide. This was proven
when shortly before half time, scrum-half Ryan
Clark made a break and offloaded
to Dave Brigenshaw who outpaced the covering
defence to cross the whitewash.
Conversion kicked.
Half time: - Harlow 17-5 Datchworth.
The second half started poorly for Harlow.
The hosts were caught napping and a missed
tackle meant that Datchworth crossed
the line out wide for their second try.
Conversion missed. This again gave Harlow the
shock that they needed, and the young rams
spent the rest of the match attacking the
Datchworth line. A long period of
pressure on the opponents 5-metre line earned no
points, however once Harlow worked their way
into the same position, they were
determined not to leave without the vital score.
The Datchworth fly-half
attempted to kick clear from behind his
try-line, however he was charged down
and Harry Flynn was first to react and fall on
the loose ball. Conversion
missed. It was at this point that Harlow hit
their straps, repeatedly fielding clearance
kicks and running straight back
into the danger zone. Ben Hockley did this to
great effect, his mazy run ending
with some excellent strength to bulldoze over
out wide. Conversion missed.
There was still time for Harlow to score
again, as their pressure told for the final
time. A sweeping move between Ryan
Clark, Ryan McGlone and Denzel Crafton gave
space for Dave Brigenshaw to use
his pace to dot down under the posts for his
second try of the match and
Harlow’s fifth.
Harlow’s forward of the match was Greg Norris,
and the back of the match was David
Brigenshaw, however other stand out performers
were Ryan Clark, Denzel Crafton,
Harry Flynn and Jordan Dunn. This was a really
good all round performance, and
an excellent win over a real old foe. Special
thanks to Shane Evans who stepped
up from the U16's, and Andrew Newton-Rae who
played for Datchworth.
Harlow: - Pedder, Flynn, Buckridan, Foster,
Evans, Dunn, Norris, Goodchild, R.
Clark, McGlone, Moore, Crafton, Brigenshaw,
Hunt, Hockley.
Harlow U15’s 0 – 0 Chingford U15’s
Quarter final Essex Cup
A harsh result for the Harlow under 16's. They
go out of the cup and Chingford go through
becauase in the case of a draw (0-0) Chingford
win and through to next round of the Essex cup
as they were the away team.
In a
great game, where Chingford
dominated first half Harlow dominated 2nd half
and even though one try was disallowed
due to being held up. It is unfortunate that the
team go out in this way.
