Harlow Rugby Football Club Youth Round Up. 10th October 2004. Chingford Colts 3 Harlow Colts 29. The Young Rams put their cup defeat of last week behind them to play some dazzling rugby at Chingford on Sunday, none more so than outside centre Jamie Fricker who rounded off some excellent handling from the Harlow three quarters with a hat-trick of tries. The Rams first try came after some twenty minutes when Fricker was put into space by a slick handling move to go over in the corner. Chingford replied with a penalty but then Harlow’s Ian Mouncey playing on the wing was at hand to finish off a fine backs move which started when James McFerran, Full back, came into the line and passed to Fricker, the centre making ground before putiing Mouncey away in the corner. It was Fricker who scored Harlow’s fourth try, another sweeping backs move, the try converted by fly half Martin O’Dell. Hooker Dan Newbury, who has just joined Harlow from Staines had a promising debut and it was the forwards who won the ball twenty metres out for flanker James Hayden to break tackles and crash over for Harlow’s fourth try.The Harlow skipper deserved to score rounding off an excellent personal performance. However it was Fricker who had the last word cutting inside to score for O’Dell to convert. Harlow Colts. Delgreco, Newbury, Ray, Thomas, Harris, Hayden (Capt), Cochrane, Claridge, Kent-Pope, O’Dell, Heapy, Fricker, Smith, Mouncey, McFerran, McClarnon.
Thurrock Under 17’s 24 Harlow Under 17’s 0. The Harlow boys went down again to an excellent Thurrock side although Harlow were pleased with their performance. Tom Brennan played well in only his second game at second row, and Neil Fitzpatrick also played tremendously in defence tackling the big Thurrock forwards throughout. Thurrock were generous enough to lend players to the Young Rams as they lost three players through injury but the Rams kept going to the final whistle and kept the score down. Harlow Under 17’s. Guernico, Barr, Clinton, Brennan, Yates, Barrs, Smith, Jessey, Fitzpatrick, Kavanagh (Capt), Hearne, Lane, Banks, Rundell, Melville-Taylor, Griffin.
Under 16’s knocked out in Quarter Final at Brentwood. Harlow lost their first game to Barking despite leading 7-0 from try by number 8 Liam Brown who seized on a mistake at the base of the Barking scrum and crashed over. The conversion was by Aled Hills. Barking came back to win 12-7 but Harlow won their second game against Woodford, who had beaten them by fifty points last season. It was another back row player who did the damage, flanker Lee Mulvey breaking through from a tap penalty. With Barking and Woodford drawing their game the Junior Rams went throguh to the quarter final but lost to Chelmsford by two tries and a conversion. Harlow Under 16’s. Adams (Capt.), Careford, Ellis, Barnard, Clarke, Elston, Brown, Cross, Davies, Hills, Woodington, Ford, Mahmood, Sabzevari, Hynes, Marriage, Swanton, Jarvis, James, Mulvey, Tucker, Wilson.
Hitchin 26 Harlow 8. The Harlow boys found themselves against a bigger and stronger side at Hitchin but played very well and tackled throughout the match. Ian Monaf playing at second row was outstanding and with players returning from injury in two weeks time the Junior Rams are bound to improve. They were trailing 0-19 at half time but a Jamie Clark try and a penalty from the same player helped them outscore Hitchin in the second half. This was a much better performance. Harlow Under 15’s. Rees, Mortimer, Ansell, Monaf, Kalafa, Paverick-Ryan, Daglish, Galloway, Hayden, Bowering, McGlone, Ashcroft, Allgrove, Hockley, Clark.
