Harlow under 7s and 8s On Sunday morning Harlow under 7s and 8s played
against Wendens Ambo Rugby Club at Saffron Walden.
Harlow Under 7s vs Wendens Ambo Under 7s
Having entertained Wendens Ambo at Harlow before Christmas, it was
Harlow’s turn to play away.
Harlow played 3 matches against a very well organised Ambo team, scoring
some fantastic team tries.
Harlow Team list: Findlay Ashby, Sophie Bell, Charlie Bromfield, Matthew
Finch, Asa Fletcher-Snow, Bobby Hume, Thomas Locke, Matthew Peasey,
Charlie Reynolds, Edward Swift
Match 1
Slow to start Harlow allowed Ambo to score 3 quick tries before Ed Swift
ran from the halfway line for the first Harlow try.
Shortly afterwards Charlie Reynolds and again Swift ran in well
worked tries. Unfortunately
Harlow then
Relaxed and Ambo scored 3 more un-answered tries.
In the second half Harlow played far better with great tagging from
Bobby Hume and superb support play from Charlie Bromfield.
Harlow matched Ambo’s 5 tries with 5 of their own from Thomas
Locke (2), Asa Fletcher-Snow, Charlie Reynolds and the ever hungry Ed
Swift.
Final score: Wendens Ambo 11, Harlow 8
Match 2
In a very tense second match Harlow again allowed Ambo to take an early
lead of 3 tries. However,
they came back strongly with great tries from Findlay Ashby and Matt
Peasey (2). Charlie Reynolds
seemed untouchable on numerous runs towards the opposition line.
One effort saw Reynolds running 30 metres but being stopped 1
metre out before feeding Thomas ‘the poacher’ Locke.
The second half saw Sophie Bell running strongly with the ball
and setting up Ed Swift for the first of his hat-trick of tries.
Asa Fletcher-Snow jinked his way around the opposition to score a
stunning try before Matt Peasey powered his way through, stopping 2
metres short of the line.
However, ‘the poacher’ Locke was again on hand to take the glory.
Despite a final brave attack, Harlow ran out of time, just losing
a super game.
Final Score: Wendens Ambo 10, Harlow 9.
Match 3
Slow starts seemed to be the order of the day, as Harlow allowed Wendens
Ambo to score 4 first half tries without scoring one of their own.
However, Coach Reynolds gave a rousing half-time talk and was rewarded
by a great second half effort.
First, Matt Finch ran through the opposition, setting Swift up
for the first of his 4 tries (Chris Ashton would have been proud of
Swift’s support lines of running).
Then Sophie Reynolds ran through, offloaded to Thomas Locke who
quickly gave Swift his second try.
Asa Fletcher-Snow ran in two eloquent tries, dancing through Ambo
players but although Harlow won the second half, the 4 try lead was too
great to overcome.
Final Score: Wendens Ambo 9, Harlow 6.
Harlow Under 8s vs Wendens Ambo Under 8s
Match 1
Wendons Ambo 8 Harlow 4
Harlow borrowed 2 players and faced a very well disciplined strong Ambo
side. Harlow picked up from where they had left off last week,
with excellent support play and worked very hard in attack. The
referee was very strict and the boys were unlucky not to score several
additional tries, but picked up some great advice and tips for future
games. Harlow’s tagging let them down a little, in the first
match, but the boys showed great team spirit and kept working hard and
helping one another. Aiden
Ruxton scored a fabulous try running from half way and skifully dodging
the opposition.
Lewis Mlton was captain for the match and showed great leadership and
made some very intelligent passes to his team mates, finding and making
great space.
Joe Quelch continued his recent run of form and ran in two tries.
Dylan Reilly made some promising runs in attack and came to life
with ball in hand. Frankie
Croome continued to run well in attack and was very keen to get the
ball.
Try scorers: Aiden Ruxton 1, Joe Quelch 2
Match 2:
W. Ambo 3 Harlow 6.
After a short rest Harlow played their second game. Harlow changed
their tactics We and approached the match in a different way.
Their new "plans" certainly paid dividends!
The boys had a competition to see who could get the most tags -
and Lewis won the "Tag Man of the Match" award showing great bravery and
launching himself across the field to get as many tags as possible.
Consequently their tagging was much better in this game, all the
boys played marvellously well - ensuring that they lead from start to
finish. Harlow used the
space well and intelligent passing, use of space and great support
play all contributed to some fabulous tries being scored: several
runs covering the length of the pitch!
Harlow learnt that by playing as a team they can win matches.
Try Scorers: Dylan Reilly 1 - excellent, strong determined running.
Aiden Ruxton 1 - used his pace effectively again to out-run the
opposition. Lewis Milton 2 -
Strong running and intelligent support play.
Joseph Quelch 2 - Good support play put Joe in the right place at
the right time. His 2nd try came from a clever pass from Lewis,
who spotted Joe in space. Joe then ran the length of the pitch with his
team mates chasing him in support!
Frankie Croome worked hard in defence and supported his team mates well
in attack and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
Considering that this is only the second time the boys have played
together as a team and they were missing Jude this week, they played
very well and made us all very proud of them. Well done boys!!
Harlow will be training at Harlow Rugby Club, Rams Gorse next Sunday
morning from 10.30am.
Newcomers are always welcome.
