Merit Table

The Saints always knew this was going to not only a hard game but a crucial one if they want to win the league, as Saints are at the top spot and Renegades
in second place.

In the first 5 minutes everything was a bit scrappy from both sides, after a quick tap penalty in the Harlow 22 Renegades crossed over to score under the posts which was converted H 0 R7.

Not long after Renegades again scored in the corner which their new No 12 converted H 0 R 14.

Harlow missed a drop goal attempt which hit the posts and also a penalty.

Harlow fought back and 10 minutes from half time Paul Crabb no10 zig zagged over the line to score which he converted. H 7 R 14

Harlow put pressure on the Renegades pack who seemed to be tiring and they had to make a couple of substitutions as the winger was found to be lacking with Gleeson and Sinfield 13,14) making his life awkward when Crabb kept probing his kicks into and behind him.

Half time Harlow 7 Renegades 14

At half time no subs were made, the game was Harlow’s for the taking, Captain Treamer made it clear in no uncertain terms that we should not be losing and to buck up and get on with it.

Harlow again put pressure on in the scrum where they dominated and decided to sub Nelson for Burroughs who was to disturb their throw in at the line, This worked and from a 15 meter line Boggas threw the ball in which was gathered by Burroughs and Harlow mauled into the Renegades 5 meter where Burroughs now at the back managed to dot it down on the line. Not converted H 12 R 14

Soon after Harlow were awarded a penalty in the 22 which Crab kicked to make it H15 R 14

Another sub of Bessent on for Mathews at no8, the back row set about disrupting the ruck and made a right nuisance of themselves clearing out Renegades with no mercy, from these phases Jones, Ferris , Powell and McDonald played pick and go and were awarded several penalties which helped crabb pin the Renegades back into their 22 time and again, from a penalty Harlow strung out the Renegades defence making dog leg which Crabb dodged through for his second of the match converted H 22 R 14.

Harlow continued to pressure the Renegades who seemed to fade at the last 5 minutes and when they should have run it kicked it out for a line out stole by
Burroughs at the breakdown a penalty to Harlow ended the game.

Harlow 22 Renegades 14

This was a hard game against a team very similar to Saints with a big pack; we played great at times and not at others, but dogged it out for the win.

This leaves Harlow with 49 points and the closet team Renegades with 40 after the game today and with shelford on 32 before today’s game with 6 games still to play for Harlow and a possible 24 points on offer and the other teams with 5 games left with 20 points possible the Saints still need to secure more wins for the championship.
